Electropositive (E+) rocks because it is a social innovation space and community committed to ensuring all voices are heard. Located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, they are a for profit and non-profit that empowers underrepresented entrepreneurs and creators driving the next wave of social innovation.
That means a lot to me as I’ve been a member of other coworking spaces before and the diversity of gender, color, and occupation always skewed to post-college, Male, Tech, and white. This space has women, white, brown, artists, entrepreneurs, creators, all equally diversified. It’s a true reflection of the community we live in, especially in New York City.
The space has all the basics like shared and private office space, content and podcast studio, but it’s been refreshing to see a space where people of all backgrounds are working on truly interesting projects from alternative education programs to 3d mapping to female entrepreneurship.
They also host kick-ass events, from standard happy hour member events to talks about gender bias, LGBTQ masculinity issues, and entrepreneur pitch nights.
The non-profit regularly hosts programs and organizations focused on STEAM initiatives. E+ regularly offers space to non-profits to produce classes, workshops, and events that benefit the community. There are always kids and students on their way to class walking through the space which creates a community atmosphere.
